The science of the spiritual journey in Islam (*ilm al-sulak) is commonly called by many names, such as: steadfastness (al istigamab), servitude (al ‘ubidiyyab), asceticism (al-zubd), self-purification (tazkiyyab al-nafs), and character reformation (tabdbib al akblaq).
